Project

Modernization of a crane control system on a wind farm in Denmark

Info & pictures

Customer: Vattenfall Europe Windkraft GmbH
Location: Transformer platform, Denmark
Project period: 2020

Project overview

In 2020, we completely overhauled the crane control system of an offshore crane on a transformer platform in Denmark.

The original control system was prone to errors and significantly impaired the availability of the crane. The aim was to bring the electrical and hydraulic control system up to the latest state of the art and to optimize operational safety.

Measures implemented:

  • Renewal of the electrical control system: Replacement of outdated control components with modern and reliable technology.
  • Upgrade of the hydraulic control system: Integration of efficient hydraulic components to optimize crane movements.
  • Security compliance: Implementation of the modernization taking into account all current offshore safety regulations.

Benefits achieved:

  • Minimized downtime: The crane is now working smoothly and reliably.
  • Increased operational safety: The modernization has significantly improved the running safety of the crane.
  • Optimized efficiency: The speed of the crane has been increased by 25 %, resulting in a significant increase in productivity.

Result:
This conversion has significantly increased the crane's performance, which optimally meets the requirements for use in the offshore wind industry.
